Below is a story from a recent job seeker, Fernando, who has been through the service and achieved a successful outcome.
Within a couple weeks of arriving in New Zealand, I approached English Language Partners looking for an English course. However, I was so lucky that the person I spoke with at the office mentioned the Job Mentoring Service to me. The coordinator explained how they can support my job search and I felt so excited about the prospect of enrolling in this cool programme.
It was amazing to have a job seeker group with whom I could connect and share questions and experiences. My mentors (Mario and Ben) and JMS coordinators (Olga and Romesh) offered me guidance, advice and tools to improve my job searching strategies.
I had the opportunity to attend more than ten workshops that allowed me to pick up relevant concepts and insights, helping me to better understand the Kiwi work environment. I was also part of the English for Job Seekers Programme as a student and my teacher (Bridget) developed a practical approach by providing useful resources and engaging lessons.
These efforts made a big difference, and I have finally accepted an exciting job offer aligned with my studies and previous experience in Colombia and Argentina.
I am impressed and inspired by all the incredible work that the ELP team does to help newcomers in Aotearoa.
