Thursday afternoon is when our Palmerston North learners head off enthusiastically to the UCOL computer lab – a short, five-minute walk down the street.

Once there, they work with great concentration on the class’ current topic in a self-paced way, taking only a short break mid-way to ‘stretch and interact.’ If time, sessions usually end with a quick online vocab game or activity.

Along the way, these ESOL Literacy programme learners are developing skills in Microsoft Word such as changing and resizing fonts, using bold and italics functions, tabling information, correcting mistakes, saving work and monitoring their own progress. These ‘real-life’ computer skills not only help improve English, but are extremely useful skills to gain for the work environment.

UCOL is working in partnership with English Language Partners to provide this beneficial learning opportunity to ELP’s learners. We’re very appreciative to UCOL for helping make this happen!
