The Filipino workers had a fantastic graduation night in the Bay of Plenty, making speeches about their progress and about how much more confident they are now.
They also had some genuine words of appreciation, thanking their two English Language Partners teachers.
The course ran for a total of 20 hours. Lessons were designed to fit flexibly into workers’ busy lives, with two-hour lessons running on Monday evenings and Saturday afternoons.
With such a large group of interior builders, the workers split into two classes.
Content focussed on improving workplace language and culture, with health and safety an important component.
As well as building general communication skills and brushing up on basic grammar and pronunciation, Alpha’s workers also learnt Kiwi slang and ‘knowhow’ – essential for communicating effectively in the New Zealand workplace!
All the Filipino workers have family back home, who were also very proud that their men have been students as well as workers for the past few weeks.
The course follows a course English Language Partners provided for Alpha Interiors earlier this year in Porirua.
